Are you taking new students?
We aim to take 1-2 new students each year.
Where do I apply?
Prospective chemistry graduate students should apply through the University of Minnesota Graduate School website. Applications are due December 1.
What is the day-to-day work like in the group?
It varies! It's usually some combination of coding, tinkering with instruments, running environmental chamber experiments, processing data, making plots, writing, and reading.
Can I apply for external fellowships?
Absolutely! Fellowships are great for both your CV and for research independence.
Do you hire postdocs?
Yes! Interested candidates should email Hannah with their CV, a 1-page description of their past research experience AND future research interests, and contact information for a reference.
In collaboration with the Millet Lab at UMN, we are hiring a postdoc to deploy mass spectral instruments on a new mobile lab focused on air composition, air quality, and environmental justice. Details at https://z.umn.edu/bdjg. Contact Hannah (hskenagy@umn.edu) & Dylan (dbm@umn.edu) with questions!
Can undergrads work in the group?
Yes, we are excited to have undergrads work in the group with us. At the moment, ongoing laboratory renovations mean all available projects are computational in nature and will involve some combination of analysis and/or modeling. If that sounds interesting to you, and especially if you have some existing coding skills that you're excited to apply to environmental systems, please get in touch!
I'm a new UMN Chemistry graduate student. Can I sit in on your group meetings?
Yes, we'd love to have you! Group meetings for Summer 2026 are Tuesdays at 1 pm in Smith 221. A list of topics/presenters can be found on the door of our student offices (Smith 224).
